My video for Twilight Electric’s “Self Portrait” was created by rescanning a 8″ CRT TV playing a manipulated video signal combined with video feedback and various effects. The signal was manipulated using circuit-bent video equipment, which introduced unique distortions and glitches to the original footage. The addition of a video mixer allowed for the integration of video feedback, amplifying the line noise to create pulsating, psychedelic patterns. This complex setup not only distorted the original signal but also layered it with vibrant, organic effects that added new layers of life to the footage.
The flowers pulse with otherworldly energy, rotating gracefully under the camera’s gaze. This mesmerizing display of movement and color, captures features of organic life in a way that is imperceptible to the naked eye just as the video mixers internal frequencies and oscillations are rendered visible using video feedback techniques.
